DOG OF THE MONTH

Belle is an English Springer Spaniel, whose owner Justina Walters, of Axminister in Devon, says: “She is at her happiest when chasing her ball on one of Devon or Cornwall’s beaches.

“She loves digging in the sand, finding driftwood and paddling in the shallows. Her favourite treats are banana, peanut butter and carrots. She will be 18 months old in January.”

And here’s Belle pictured living up to her reputation by enjoying the beach at Croyde Bay in north Devon.

COAT OF MANY COLOURS HELPS CHARITIES

Dog food specialist tails.com and technical clothing brand Gill have teamed up to create a limited edition dog coat raising funds for charity partners StreetVet and Ocean Generation.

The new dog coat is available in graphite, blue and navy colours across four sizes with a RRP of £35. The two-in-one coat has a waterproof outer layer and is made from offcuts from Gill’s XPLORE® fabric which is usually used in high-performance sailing wear. The detachable inner-lining is made from 100% recycled taffeta for comfort and warmth for colder winter days. The coat incorporates many of Gill’s traditional motifs including a reflective collar and badges for visibility to provide a stylish and practical solution for winter walks in all weathers.

Dr Sean McCormack, head vet and tails.com community fund lead, commented: “It’s so important to find innovative ways to use unwanted materials which would otherwise go to waste, particularly if it creates a high performance, design-led product to benefit our dogs.

“And, best of all, your dog’s new style icon status will help support conservation in our seas and less fortunate dogs and their owners experiencing homelessness through our charity partnerships with Ocean Generation and StreetVet. Forget the catwalk, it’s all about the dog walk this winter! ”

Sally Streeting, Gill marketing director added: “It’s been really exciting to collaborate with the team at tails.com on the creation of our first waterproof dog coat. Their wealth of vet, behaviourist and canine experience has been critical in creating what we believe is one of the best dog coats out there – from the colours we’ve used to the fastenings and how it fits – everything has been very considered to deliver a product that’s best for the dog, but also gives their owner the reassurance that they have a coat that will keep their dog dry, warm and happy.”
