If you love nature then you’ll truly be at home on the Isle of Wight. Firstly, make sure to take time out to spot a red squirrel or two…although they are an endangered species elsewhere in the UK and increasingly rare to see, the island’s thriving population of 3,500 of the cute critters makes them an important part of the environment there.
There are walks aplenty all around the island and a visit to the former medieval hunting forest at Borthwood Copse will have you marvelling at the vast array of flora and fauna. And with the Isle of Wight officially being the UK’s sunniest staycation spot you’ll likely have great weather while you are out and about as well!
Cyclists can live the dream on the island as it demonstrates the reason why it is known as being one of the top cycling destinations in the world. Not only is it home to some of the UK’s best scenery, it also has around 200 miles of cycle tracks, byways and bridleways to explore.
And getting to and from the island couldn’t be easier – travel over with your car via Wightlink or Red Funnel Ferries, or hop onboard the Hovercraft (the world’s only commercial passenger hovercraft service).
