The Roseland Festival announce 2023 dates; Saturday the 22nd April to Friday the 5th May.
Now in its seventeenth year, this much loved annual Festival will be running from Saturday the 22nd April to Friday the 5th May 2023. Located on the Roseland Peninsula on the South coast of Cornwall, this part of the County has long been known for its unassuming, unspoilt and natural beauty, surrounded by the serene and sheltered Fal River and Carrick Roads.
The cultural festival is a celebration of local food & drink, arts & crafts, books, music & performance and walks & talks. Established and popular events include beach foraging with local expert forager Matt Vernon of Wild Cornish Food, the incredibly stirring Mevagissey Male Voice Choir and a vineyard tour of the Portscatho Knightor Winery.
Other unmissable events include the much-loved willow weaving workshops, gin tasting with Cornish Spirits company Rock Gin and toe-tapping perfomances from Cornish musicians such as Ross Morris, the Kit Hillbillies and Tregony Teachers. A new guest for 2023 is man-booker prize nominated writer and author of ‘Draw of the Sea’ Wyl Menmuir hosting a book talk at the beautiful seaside, St Mawes Hotel.
Outdoor endeavours on the programme include Veryan open gardens, a guided walk through the waterfront St Just in Roseland Churchyard, once descriebd by poet John Betjamin as ‘the most beaufiful churchyard on earth’, plus an outdoor adventure at the
wonderfully wild riverside retreat 7th Rise, where guests will learn bushcraft and fire-lighting skills.
Some NEW events for the 2023 programme…
A new foodie concept, a poly-tunnel supper, is a partnership between local farmer and producer Roseland Market Garden, and chef Rupert Cooper of Philleigh Way Cookery School. The empty polytunnel will be transformed into a pop-up supper club, with a banquet table, candles and wild flowers, whilst outside Rupert will cook a 3 course meal over fire, with canapes and far reaching views down to St Mawes Bay. The farm feast will use produce harvested entirely from the Roseland Market Garden surrounding land; true farm to fork eating.
Another new food event for the calandar is the crab lunch, held at Curgurell Farm, just outside Portscatho. The barn will be transformed with festoon lighting, haybales and long tables filled with fresh seaonal salads and morning-caught crab by the Taffinder family themselves.
Roseland Paddle and Sail, based on the idyllic Percuil river will set up a kayaking treasure hunt, where families can paddle along the safe and secluded creek, following clues and receiving a prize!
A registered charity, at its heart the festival is a vehicle for local fundraising and initiatives aiming to improve and develop public education and the appreciation of arts and culture in all its forms, on The Roseland. The committee further that aim by offering grants to the four Roseland primary schools and the Roseland Senior Academy for Arts related projects.
