A passionate advocate for the north west coastline has come up with a gem of an idea to share the love with others, and appreciate local wildlife.
Gemma Wren has worked in conservation for over 20 years. A big part of that has been about connecting people with nature. Now she’s set up her own company, NaturesGems, to do the same.
She’s sharing her knowledge and passion for the local wildlife, as exciting as any to be found around the world. Drawn to the wide open expanse of Morecambe Bay, after living on the coast in Australia, Gemma says: “The idea for NaturesGems grew from my travels, in seek of a nature fix. The natural wonders of Morecambe Bay are as stunning as any I have seen.
“It’s the UK’s largest expanse of intertidal mudflats, making it one of the most important wildlife sites in Europe. From grey seals and rare orchids to the UK’s loudest toad, plus incredible assemblages of migrating and breeding birds. It’s also a butterfly hotspot, home to many threatened species.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work all over the world. Closer to home, I’ve managed coastal bird reserves and led landscape projects across the north of England.
“People really enjoy discovering this area. The Bay is a truly magical place to be. The ever changing light makes for the best views, sunsets, photo and sketching opportunities, plus a chance to breathe and reconnect with nature,” adds Gemma.
There’s an invitation to encounter the wonders of the natural world, with walks led by Gemma. Explore Morecambe Bay, Arnside and Silverdale to the fringes of the Lake District. naturesgemtours.co.uk
