We get the lowdown on the Burgh Island Hotel in Devon from Coast editor Alex Fisher

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
This stunning example of Art Deco architecture sits alone on Burgh Island, providing a private and unusual stay in this beautiful part of South Devon. Wherever possible, the original fixtures and fittings have been maintained, and there is a sense of stepping back in time as soon as you enter the building and are greeted with a glass of sherry.
A former haunt of Agatha Christie and Noel Coward.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
Fantastic food, complimentary toiletries, wonderful cocktails and a
black-tie evening meal, with a live jazz band for after-dinner entertainment on Saturday night. We loved the tucked-away sea pool, with a sunbathing deck that you have to swim to.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
All the rooms are decorated differently, with original Art Deco furniture and fittings.

BEST SEA VIEW?
Sitting on a small island, there are
sea views from all the rooms, most of them spectacular.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
Rooms are rented out on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate, so all guests eat at the hotel. Luckily, the food is a dream! Think seared local diver scallops and roast monkfish, followed by dark chocolate fondant. For breakfast, don’t miss the best homemade marmalade I have ever tasted.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
Prices per night start at £295 for a cosy double room, and rise to £735 for Agatha's Beach House, a private apartment nestled in the rock face. Prices include breakfast, dinner,
 parking and transfers.
