Coast visits the Sands Hotel in Margate. Review by Sheryl Garratt
WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
Edgy Margate has seen a revival of its fortunes over the last few years. This new boutique hotel is perfectly situated on the seafront right by the Turner Contemporary gallery and the quirky shops and restaurants of the Old Town. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room, balconies galore and a private roof terrace for hotel guests all make the most of the great views across the sandy beach.
WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
Cool, contemporary and luxurious, put together with a real eye for detail. Even the staircase between floors in this hotel is stunning.
ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
The bling plug sockets are edged with Swarovski crystals, there’s a mini-bar full of free goodies and fluffy bathrobes to lounge about in.
BEST SEA VIEW?
The superior sea-view rooms all have their own balconies, but from the roof terrace, sunset seems like your own private light show.
HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
Modern British, making imaginative use of fresh local ingredients. And there’s a cool ice-cream parlour on the lower floor opposite the beach.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
From £120 for a lower ground floor room to £200 for a superior sea-view room, including breakfast and based on two sharing sandshotelmargate.co.uk
