WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
A traditional country house, jazzed up with zebra prints and eccentric collections of objets d’art. It was voted ‘Best Small Hotel’ in last year’s Cornwall Tourism awards.
WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
They range from simple, contemporary classics with New Englandstyle stars and stripes to sumptuous sea-view suites. Room 1 has a four-posterbed draped in floaty muslin. Room 9 has original panelling and a huge private balcony. Even the smaller rooms have big beds and great views.They are dog-friendly, too.
ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
Our room had a glamorous gilded bed and an egg-shaped tub in an Italian marble bathroom, but the real treat is the location. Overlooking Talland Bay, between the fishing harbours of Polperro and Looe, the house is set in dreamy clifftop gardens, furnished with playful sculptures.
BEST SEA VIEW?
Take a seat under a tree or on a sun-lounger on the lawns and enjoy. Ravishing sunsets are a speciality.
HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
Eat in the award-winning Terrace Restaurant (Looe Scallops, Cornish venison) or the informal Brasserie (homemade fish cakes, moules marinières, a crab salad) Both major on fresh, local produce.
