Alex Fisher visits Amelies, Porthleven, Cornwall

WHET MY APPETITE
This stylish restaurant, which overlooks the harbour in pretty Porthleven, serves fish and shellfish from the local fishermen, along with pizzas made in their wood-fired oven.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
I started my meal with Cornish scallops, served with a light lemon butter. These mouthwatering morsels were cooked to perfection, just lightly enough to retain all the flavour and moisture the ocean gives them. I followed with the catch of the day, a fillet of pollock served on a bed of spinach, brought in by a little fishing boat that was now bobbing in the harbour just outside. For dessert I tried the affogato with espresso coffee, vanilla ice cream and amaretto crumble.

HOW’S THE MOOD?
Sophisticated, but relaxed. Very child-friendly but equally good for couples who want a romantic evening. Low lighting and welcoming staff.

CAN I SEE THE SEA?
Yes, the harbour is right outside! Take a moonlight stroll by the water after your meal.

WHAT’S THE DAMAGE?
Starters are around £5, mains £14. Pizzas start at £8.50 and you can add your own toppings.
