ANDY COOPER heads west for a memorable weekend experience at a familiar spot – Mawgan Porth.
Mawgan Porth is one of those iconic Cornish beaches which is a dramatic, delightful experience whatever the weather. Yes, a scorching summer’s day on those sands is one to remember, but so too is a bracing, swirling winter’s morning, watching the waves break and a few strong-willed surfers ride the briny.
The drama of the cove and the relative ease of access to the beach, make this pretty much one of my favourite Cornish spots. And yet I had never stayed there. It has always been the case over the years that we were ‘just visiting’ and so, come the end of the day, it was time to pack up and leave.
Not on my latest visit though. Oh no…this time I was ‘in residence’ and boy, what a residence. My home for the weekend was the amazing rental property Prennek House, arranged for me by the super-efficient and friendly team at holiday rental experts Perfect Stays.

Elegantly set across two floors and joined by a magnificent exposed wood staircase, the property encourages sociable dining in the bright kitchen and restful afternoons in the open plan lounge. Just beyond the patio doors, a garden and wraparound deck invite families and groups of friends to celebrate special occasions with a coastal backdrop.
Upstairs, guests can break away from the group on the roof terrace and enjoy a nightcap as stars punctuate the night sky. Featuring a light and airy en-suite master bedroom, as well as two further sea-view bedrooms, the first floor also benefits from a bespoke family bathroom.
The five adults in our party lapped up the luxury and, even though that glorious beach was but a ten-minute walk away, often found it hard to break ourselves away from our surroundings.
A word too for the aforementioned team at Perfect Stays because they made our stay a complete delight. Their concierge service is inclusive from the moment of booking and guests have access to our in-house experts via phone or email right up until the end of their stay.
The team can arrange activities, book restaurants, organise taxis and even create detailed holiday itineraries. They work with a large number of fantastic independent businesses across the south west and it’s worth noting that they don’t take any commission or kick-backs, and only recommend experiences and businesses that they’re confident in – quite often their team have tried them first-hand too.
It all adds up to the perfect staycation experience in stunning surroundings. We all took away memories to last a lifetime.
