Alex Fisher checks out this stylish place to stay with an excellent restaurant
WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
Already renowned for its great food, The Ginger Pig has now added rooms above the bar and restaurant near the beach in Hove. Brighton’s quieter sister, Hove is an ideal spot for a romantic city escape by the sea. The stylish interiors in muted indigo and slate tones with splashes of burnt orange, and artwork by the brilliant Dan Hillier, are a delight.
ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
All the rooms have an oversized shower or freestanding bath tub, luxury ‘Hypnos’ mattresses, high thread-count linen, Nespresso-style coffee machines and premixed ‘Ginger’ cocktails.
WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
There are 11 en-suite rooms of varying sizes. The smaller attic rooms with sloping ceilings still hold king-size beds, and are reasonably priced. The larger suites offer laid-back luxury and spacious bathrooms.
BEST SEA VIEW?
You can’t quite see the sea from most rooms, but it is just a hop, skip and jump across the road. Nearby Hove Lawns are perfect for a sunset walk or cycle.
HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
Excellent modern cuisine using local produce. The menu changes often – autumn dishes include venison with savoy cabbage and smoked bacon or halibut with white beans, golden beets, rainbow chard and saffron dressing. Save room for a honey crème brulee, whisky marshmallow, fig and almond tuile.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
Attic rooms, with king-size beds, start at £80 a night, rising to £160 for larger feature rooms with baths, on a room-only basis.
