Anne-Claire Heels is impressed with this Essex hotel and restaurant

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
New on Clifton Terrace with views over the world’s longest pleasure pier is boutique hotel Seven. With 37 rooms designed by award-winning Adam Tibbatts, cosy gin bar and striking restaurant, this new launch brings some upmarket city chic to a traditional seaside town.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
Super-king beds, pocket-sprung mattresses, 55-inch LED TVs, free Wifi, blackout curtains, mood lighting, temperature controls, rainwater showers and CO Bigelow toiletries. And the friendly, attentive service – hospitality at its best.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
The colour palette blends blues, sea-greens and sand with gold accents. There are eye-catching design details everywhere, from the wall lights to the lovely fretwork screens.

BEST SEA VIEW?
The luxurious Estuary Suites have uninterrupted views of the pier and beyond. The bar and restaurant also look out over the estuary.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
Head chef Simon Webb brings a wealth of fine dining experience to Aurum restaurant. My Skrei cod with lobster and chorizo was terrific, and desserts include egg custard tart with rhubarb and sorrel (as pretty as it was delicious) and a bread and butter pudding with golden raisins and amazing sourdough ice cream. There’s a very reasonable set menu in the week – two courses for £19, three for £24 – and vegan options. There’s also a fun seaside-themed afternoon tea, at £23pp.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
Nightly rates from £150 based on two sharing a standard room, or £220 based on two sharing a suite on a room-only basis. Book on 01702 900010 or at thesevenhotel.co.uk.
